Complaint / review text:
I became self employed February 2014. Through Colorado's health care insurance market place I received a phone call from a broker in Ohio.
He sold me a policy through Pan American Life Insurance Group which was program managed by SMIG. I received my payment authorization details and insurance cards but never received my policy, application, or ceritifcate of coverage which were promised to me.
In October 2014 I learned I had made the the biggest mistake of my life enrolling for this plan. They terminated my coverage on August 1st (exactly 6 months after enrollment) because it was a 6 month term plan.
Although that might have been shared with me during the purchasing process, my insurance cards do not have an expiration date and I have no policy to read, no information anywhere that it was "terminating" me at six months. It does not say "six month termination." It says "short term medical insurance." When I went to my doctor for routine health care visit in October, I learned that day that my insurance was not in effect. I got new coverage next day, this time with a local broker who cares about me and my policies.
I'm apalled that this company terminated my policy without notice. When I called to get information, they explained that they notifify their brokers "as a courtesy" but there is no requirement andd there is no documentation of notifying anyone when their policy expires.
