I purchased text books for school and I asked the merchant to put the transaction through on Budget. I see that the transaction was put through on straight when there were not enough funds available in my account. I would've thought that Discovery would have declined the transaction as there were not enough funds available but they didn't and now they want to charge me R230.00 for going over my available balance. I have asked them to please put something on my account to not allow transactions to go through if there are not enough funds available and I am told sorry there is no facility to do that. I don't know why this is not possible in this day and age. I also don't know why I should be penalised for a mistake the merchant made or for Discovery allowing a transaction to go through when there were not enough funds available. If the transaction was declined I would've realized the merchant had not put it though on budget as I had requested.
