I've had a standard bank cheque account for many years and in January 2014 decided to apply for a credit card linked to my account. I was very happy at first and did some online transactions between February - April 2014 which cost me around R1000.00 at the most, Standard debited my cheque account with monthly instalments of under R200.00 per month for a few months after that until the amount owed on the credit card was paid up. After April 2014 I did not use the credit card again but to my surprise an amount of around R500.00 was deducted in March 2015. I enquired with the bank but after calling their useless Call Centre many times decided to leave matters and close the Credit Card. I sent many e-mails requesting closure of the credit card and thinking the issue was resolved, left the matter. Now in June 2015, another amount of R500.00 was deducted from my cheque account for the closed credit card. When I called to enquire I was told that I owed R4900.00 on my credit card and therefore cannot close it. What really upset me is that the internet supplier which I used last year, was able to request payment without my authority and the bank did not even let me know about it. Bad!!!
