I purchased a Polaris Ranger diesel crew cab on November 24,2012 from Best Buy Vehicles in Ft Pierce, FL. I went to this dealer specifically on a recommendation. Jim (the owner) is very nice, gave us lots of information, told us what to expect from the vehicle, took us on a test drive, etc. Jim assured us that this diesel would "make it through anything" and that it would "hold up forever with a diesel engine". We did inquire as to which was better, gas or diesel. He emphatically said "the diesel, " so on his word we purchased the diesel for $14,601.
Since purchasing the Ranger, we have had it back down to Jim 4 different times because it will not start. The first time we took it down the wires were loose and the starter was not getting a connection. Jim's crew fixed this and we were on our way. On January 17th, 2012 - our 2nd trip down - we took it to Best Buy in which Jim sent the starter to Polaris under the original warranty and put a new starter in the Ranger with no charge to us as he was sure it was under the warranty as the machine is only 2 months old. Two weeks later—down to Jim again. This time the alternator was bad. Jim replaced and we were on our way. On February 25th, 2012 we got the Ranger back down there again and Jim pulled out the starter and it was rusting again.in three weeks? The starter would have to have been immersed under water 24 hours a day to get rust in three weeks. Jim was also very surprised that there was rust on it. The vehicle did not go through any water.
There is definitely a manufacturer defect on this machine. I believe there is a type of "electrolysis" that is causing the reaction of the rust happening so quickly. This Ranger is utilized on Saturdays only each week in the woods. I am requesting that Polaris look into this immediately as it is a warranty issue. I have spent in excess of $1000 to fix a 2 month old machine—this is unacceptable.
I am requesting a full check of my Ranger and its electrical components and a refund of my $1073.43. I do not want this Ranger as it is a lemon. I want a gas one in its place and a refund of the two starters Best Buy made me pay for because Polaris said it was not warranted. I am looking into the lemon law and I intended on writing to the BBB where your headquarters are located if I can not get satisfaction. If no contact from Polaris or a resolution, my last effort will be an attorney. I am also disputing the charges with HSBC the credit card company that holds the loan.
