We had company and were preparing a barbecue, with hamburgers and hot dogs. My husband had the grill ready and I was getting the meat on the plate. My company were in the kitchen with me as we chatted and prepared the rest of the meal. When I opened a 3 lbs. Package of chopped meat, and started forming the hamburgers, I noticed that the top portion of the meat was very red, and the inside was a pale grey with a distinct odor. My guest smelt it and suggested that I just throw it away. I threw most of it away but when she left the kitchen, I put the plastic cover and date and price marker in a plastic bag into the refrigerator. We were very busy with company so my fault I did not return it the next day, I waited 2 days.
The manager was a little put off by my story and frankly I believe he thought it was untrue. However, he did return my money, but denied emphatically that they ever repackage meat. Then, unknowingly, he stated they do repackage meat when the larger quantities do not sell, and they reform them in smaller packages. I did have this happen with Salmon at this same store, and that I just brought back in total. It did stink and the next day, I went back with it for a refund. This store continually has their refrigeration go out, and freezers, and lots of merchandise thrown out, or so we are to believe. They are financially stretched and have very few employees as their corporate company has changed to Albertsons. Since the merger the employees have been very vocal about their unfair working conditions, and long hours, and many cutbacks in employees.
