While checking the weather, a pop-up ad appeared with the healdine, "Stop Being Ugly, " and an unflattering picture of a woman's face below. Effective advertising for the company Stages of Beauty, I suppose (it got my attention), but a heartless approach, reinforcing the myth that we have to look like plastic to be happy.
I hope that folks will think twice about buying "age-defying" beauty products and instead explore ways to achieve actual health of mind and body. Murphy says, "Beauty is skin deep, but ugly goes to the bone, " and I think that Stages of Beauty fits the bill.
