I have been a very good and loyal Prestige-customer at SB for almost 30 years.
On Saturday afternoon, 28 June, I was the target of auto teller at the Eden-on-the-bay shopping mall in Bloubergstrand, where R5000-00 was illegitimately withdrawn from my account after the machine had taken my card in. It was immediately reported to SB-call centre when I noticed the sms withdrawal notice on my cell phone.
A few days later I was informed by a call centre agent that SB can not be held responsible for security at auto tellers not located in the immediate vicinity of a branch.
I was advised by a senior manager in SB to refer the incident to my branch manager, which I subsequently did. After 10 days I had no response from Ms Maldene Ruiters and I had to send a reminder follow up request by e-mail.
The next day I had a call from Shaunize Makara, advising that the incident will be investigated again, only to be informed a few days later again that there is nothing SB can do. She advised that I may refer the issue to the Ombudsman.
I am appalled at the treatment I got from Standard Bank after 30 years. I will be closing all my accounts at the end of the month and move to FNB.
