Complaint / review text:
I was 2 days late on a Bank of America credit card payment because I was in the hospital for 2 weeks with congestive heart failure. The bank charged me a $39 late fee. I called them and they said they would remove the late fee. I made my next payment when it was due, then received a late payment notice because I didn't pay the first $39 fee that they said they would remove; then they assessed another $39 fee on top of that. I called and they said they would remove that fee as well. I then made the next payment on time and received another late payment notice because I did not pay the two $39 fees they said they would remove.
Insult to injury, they also escalated the interest rate on the card and put that amount of $25 on my bill as well. They then said they would remove that. Now they say they have removed all the fees but they still want me to pay the amount including the fees and that will show up as a credit on my next statement. So they took off the fees but I still have to pay them to bring the account current.
Meanwhile, their computer calls my house 10 times a day. I complained to the police who said that was a civil matter. I complained to Bell South who said that was not harassment and to file a complaint with the FTC. Throughout all this, I've had supervisors at Bank of America tell me that I only need to make the minimum payment all along, and I've asked for a manager to call back and I was promised a return call within 24-48 hours which never happened. I even call my local branch manager and she called back and said if I had made the payment on time this would have never happened and that late was late, 1 day or two months.
Nice person she is. I've had it with these corporate thugs who view their jobs like its some kind of religion and the bank is always right. BOA is the Taliban! May they all be sucked up by a bigger fish and may they all find themselves on the street without a job or a home!
