Complaint / review text:
We applied at Standard Bank for finance to buy property. The bond application was declined. The reason for this was not being over indebted, or shortage of revenue, but the bank not being able to confirm my wife's employment. She provided three months' salary slips and three months' bank statements (showing her salary being deposited into her account). Her employer wrote a letter to confirm her employment, with contact numbers for any queries. Still, the bank rejected the application as they could not confirm her employment, as the employer is not listed in the telephone directory. This is surely the most absurd reason ever to reject a loan application. The employer even confirmed their registration number to enable the bank to access any records. It is clear that no one at the bank made any effort to confirm the records or credibility of the employer. It is further clear that the bank is not interested in our business and will be rejecting other applications, because there are a lot of businesses that are not listed in the telephone directory and their employees will also not qualify for a loan. Ridiculous!!
