Complaint / review text:
On the evening of 18 Jul 2014 we noticed water leaking from the ceiling in our downstairs bathroom. We called Immediate Response Restoration, an emergency repair company. They shut off the water to the house and began the drying process with 4 dehumidifiers. Plaster was sent out for testing and determined it was safe to remove from the ceiling and walls. Once the ceiling was opened and the water turned back on, the origin of the water was determined to be coming from the hot water supply line to the upstairs shower and was also determined to be a sudden leak. The plumber capped off this supply line and the water was turned back on in the house with no further leaks. All of this was backed up by the paperwork from the repair company.
We filed a claim for water damage which would cover only the removal of the plaster and the drying out process. The State Farm field adjuster wrote up her report and determined that "the water damage to the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms was the result of a continuous or repeated leak of water from multiple sources." Even though the plumber and repair reports contradict this statement, State Farm has refused to pay our claim. After 50 years of paying State Farm Homeowners insurance, this was our only claim. We are now shopping for a better insurance company.
