Complaint / review text:
I began to refinance my mortgage with Chase on 1/9/09. My credit card was debited $750, for a 'processing fee' and I was told $400 would be refunded at closing. As of 5/30/09, Chase has still not given me any 'product' (refinance) for my $750. I want $750 refunded to my Chase credit card. I have over 20 emails, and many phone calls that show their lack of competence and their lies, concerning my refinance process. I believe that they are not at all interested in refinancing a mortgage, but rather interested in collecting these 'non-refundable' fees, with nothing for the consumer to show for it, except headaches, stomachaches, and the continuance of the higher interest rate (to Chase's benefit).
I contend they never had any intention in giving me a 4.75% rate, instead of the 6.25% rate I am currently paying. They just took my money, and proceeded to blow me off. The only time that something was done towards it, was when I called the bank that holds my (untapped) line of credit, and the title company. Until I made these contacts, not one thing had happened. Then to top it off, they began to say I need to provide all of my personal financial history, and account history again, because it had expired. What?
On 5/30/09, I finally backed out of the process, after having tried to do so in April and early May, but was schmoozed by the salesmen handling my case into believing it would happen quickly, telling them I had no product to show for my $750, and wanted it refunded. They refused. I want some justice here. I'm a 61 yr old single woman (which they knew via the application information), and I believe that they took advantage of me. Please help me. Thank you. The consequences include losing the $750 deposit, the cost of $227 for title search that had already begun, and that I am continuing to pay a higher interest rate of 6.25%, rather than the refinance quote of 4.75%. I am on a fixed income. This is causing me financial hardship.
