Complaint / review text:
My husband works for a Title I school and is eligible under the federal teacher student loan forgiveness program to have $5,000 of his student loans forgiven. Shortly after he sent in his application materials for student loan forgiveness, Wells Fargo sold his loan to ACS Education Services. Since that time, he has had to transfer the application to ACS, which denied his application, stating that he does not work at a Title I school. He has sent numerous responses and proof that his school is a Title I school and that he qualifies for forgiveness of $5,000.
We have had a Minnesota Department of Education official confirm the Title I status after ACS claimed that their research department followed up with the "Department of Education" and received no response. We gave them a direct contact, and she also emailed them herself confirming the status.
We owe a little over $5,000 right now. Our next payment in July will put us under $5,000. We do not want to pay them more than we have to, fearing that we will never see that money refunded even if the loan forgiveness goes through. They have also combined our two loans and required a higher monthly payment, making me think that they are charging higher interest.
We cannot get someone directly in their research department. Customer service refuses to forward us to someone.
Our rights under federal law are being violated, not to mention the potential obligation to pay back money that should be forgiven, or face a mark on our credit score. We have faithfully paid back $8,000 plus interest on time. We have never defaulted on student loans. We deserve this matter taken care of.
