Complaint / review text:
We have been trying to locate a family practitioner. After contacting seven physician's offices, a disturbing pattern has started to emerge. BTW, each of the seven offices have listed themselves as accepting new patients on UHC's website. Four stated, contrary to their listing, that they are in fact not accepting new patients. The other three initially confirmed they were accepting new patients, but when told that our insurance company is UHC, they renigged and said they actually were not accepting new patients.
WHAT?! What is going on here? Is UHC screwing doctors so bad on processing claims that doctors will no longer accept patients with UnitedHealthcare? Subsequently, my spouse has located a family practitioner willing to accept UnitedHealthcare - first available appointment date is over a month out! It is ridiulous how hard it has become to get established as a patient with a family doctor and be able to get an appointment in a reasonable amount of time for what should otherwise be readily treatable ailments.
Just as disturbing are some reports seen where UHC has been dodging and errantly denying claims. I wonder what kind of a chip they would have on their shoulder if we went to the emergency room instead of a family doctor for a cold or allergy because no family doctors are willing to accept UHC coverage? Of course, this would be more money out of our pockets because of an ER admission and deductible, but UHC will ultimately have the big ER bill! It is sad when the only relief one can attain for an ailment is to visit an ER that cannot turn you away, resulting in higher amounts on claims and out of the patient's pocket - all because there are no family doctors willing to provide treatment. Moreover, we may have to base future employment on whether they have coverage like BC/BS instead of whether they are actually a good career move for our talents! The addage that some kind of insurance is always better than no insurance is definitely not a true statement. Oh what to do in this current day and age for a reliable health insurance carrier...
