I opened a First Premier prepaid credit card to start fixing my credit. I had the card for four months and made payments on time every month without ever having a problem. I got my taxes back this year and decided just to pay off the $300 balance, so I called the 800 number to make the payment like I always do. They have all of my bank information on file. I went through the automated line, made the payment and got the confirmation number.
About a week later, the money was still not out of my bank account so I called to check, and the automated was saying that they had not received a payment. So, again, I tried making a payment and, again, the same thing happened. I did this for four times and each time the same thing happened. I have confirmation numbers for every transaction. I had plenty of money in my bank account to make the payments and it never once showed up in my bank. I tried contacting someone from First Premier bank and never got a hold of anyone.
It has been three months and now, I am getting hot with $29 late charges because the payments are not posting. I figured that someone would eventually call me asking for money. Finally, someone called me and I explained what was going on. The lady was very nice and she could see all of the records wherein payments were made but never taken out. She said that she had never seen that happen before and she would take the late payments off. By now, there were four late payments and I was over limit. She took a payment over the phone with the same information that they have on file and the payment went through just fine. But she only took off one late fee.
Today, I called to discuss getting the other late fees removed and the lady was very nasty telling me that the one $29 fee that they took off was only a courtesy. They didn't have to do that. It was my fault that the payments were not made and nothing was wrong with their system. I feel very strongly that this is fraud and a scam to get more money out of people. It's not as if they don't already make a killing by charging almost 30%.
