Complaint / review text:
OneWest Bank recently levied a deceitful $30 "stealth fee" on my IRA acct, but I didn't realize it because legally-required information about the new fee was hidden behind a mountain of happy talk and fine print. Actual news of the fee came a few days before I was to renew a CD with OneWest.
When I complained, OneWest customer service said they'd sent a brochure announcing the change — a new fee not in my original contract — months before. Looking over the mailing, news of the fee was NOT contained in the cover letter and information was VERY hard to find in the mailing. The fee change was carefully hidden behind a mountain of fine print on page a48, actually page 68 of the brochure. I had to look very hard to find this information.
OneWest's customer service representative promised me he'd reverse the fee, but the fee was not reversed. The fee amounted to more than half the interest OneWest paid me for a six-month CD.
So I withdrew my money from OneWest, and I'd advise everyone else to do the same to this deceitful bank. I'm with a credit union now.
