Complaint / review text:
I was a victim of identity theft, and immediately filed a police report and initiated security freezes with all 3 bureaus.in my state, crime victims are entitled to a "free" security freeze. When I filed, however, I was charged $10 by all the bureaus and told to submit my police report and documentation when I could. I mailed everything in they asked for. The other 2 bureaus were quick to refund, but nothing ever came from TransUnion. I finally called them and they said that because I didn't submit the police report at the same time as filing the freeze, they would not give me a refund.
However, the police department took a few days to even get me a copy of the report - do you think that I should have waited several days to start a security freeze, and just hope that the thieves wouldn't ruin my credit in the meantime? The CSAs at TransUnion had terrible attitudes and were very "whatever" about my refund. I filed a complaint with the state Attorney General and FTC. I think TransUnion is doing whatever it can to defraud crime victims of the filing fees.
