Complaint / review text:
My direct loans when with the Dept of Education were eligible for IBR repayment plan even though they were in forebearance. My initial contact from Nelnet included my loans in the IBR repayment except for the small PLUS loan that I had.
I have documentation from them asking me to supply them with updated income information in order to keep me in the IBR program. A couple of months later, I received a letter with a monthly payment of approximately $1000. When I called, I was told that I did not qualify for the IBR program because my PLUS loan was consolidated with my Direct Student loans. I explained that they were never consolidated and the Federal govt deemed me eligible for IBR as well as their company did when they first got my loans.
I have spoken to several people there and have been told that their legal dept thinks I am too high a risk to place me in the IBR program because they do not have all of my promissory notes. Since then, Whenever I speak with someone, I am told that they do in fact have all of the documentation, which makes me ineligible for IBR program. Basically, I will go into default because I can not pay the amount necessary on any other repayment program. Also, since I am a social worker, I am ineligible for student loan forgiveness because I do not qualify for income based repayment.
I do not know what to do because the department that has my loans prior to Nelnet no longer exists.
