Like so many others on here, our 2008 Dodge Durango developed engine knock at 64k miles. We took it to a Dodge dealership (Maroone Dodge of Pembroke Pines) and we were told by the service manager (Kenny) that it was a sludge engine, and that Chrysler wouldn't cover it under the lifetime powertrain warranty because sludge engine is always the result of poor maintenance. I have all but two of my oil change records, as those two I did myself. Because I cannot furnish every record, Chrysler will not even consider honoring my warranty. My wife and I have launched a Twitter campaign against them, and we have their attention. We are working toward making #ChryslerSellsLemons and #BoycottChrysler trending topics on everyone's Twitter feed. So far, we have gotten some high level attention from Twitter executives. The bottom line is that even if I had missed two oil changes, that would not cause oil pump failure and catastrophic engine damage. Reduced engine life for sure, but catastrophic failure at 64k? Not a chance. Every mechanic in the world knows it's a load of garbage.
