I just purchased a Magellan Roadmate GPS in September 2012. I attempted to check for map updates and found their website poor at best.
The instructions said to download the Content Manager but there were 8 different programs listed by that name. When I attempted to get some help, the website directed me to a service that charged $30 an hour. There didn't appear to be any way to contact Magellan with my complaint.
Apparently they don't value consumer feedback. I don't know how the unit is going to perform, but their website and customer assistance sucks.
