Complaint / review text:
Got a popup from QB after installing a tax update. Called QB support, they ran a program that they claimed could only be run once and determined that the QB database was 78% corrupted and we would need to get it fixed before there was any more damage. They would fix it for only $300.00 After doing some research we called them back and asked if the tools that were listed on the intuit web site could clear the problem. We were told that the repair would require special software that only they had. We were also cautioned not to reopen QB because it could cause more damage and it would cost more to fix. I asked them to rerun their utility that shows the state of the database and they claimed it could only be run once.
After much internal debate we decided to let them do the repair. Watching the repair A) The first thing they did remotely was to start QB, then they went to the intuit site and downloaded a repair utility that is available to anyone and updated the Microsoft.net Frame 3 and 4. There was never any special software used and within about 10 minutes they were done. The problem we asked them to resolve was fixed.interestingly enough they never ran their database test program again. My guess is that it would have shown a corrupt database again.
Not sure if it worth the time to pursue with the Atty General but if nothing else maybe we can prevent someone else from getting screwed.
