Complaint / review text:
I started classes at Ashford in October 2011 to obtain a degree in Organizational Management. I had a little trouble getting my stipend check because the admissions counselor entered in the wrong address for me. It was like an act of congress to finally figure that out with all the phone calls and emails. I continued classes until March of 2013, when I was taking Algebra. I was having a hard time and could not get any help from my instructor. After 2 weeks of emailing and calling my advisor, I told her what happened and she said it was fine to drop the class. It is now November 2014, and I decided to give school a go, but I found my transcript to be frozen. Once I called the school they were so excited about my return, but said I failed a class and it was in collections. I received no emails, letters, or phone calls regarding this.
I am a single mom and owe the student loans of nearly $18000. I let them know the class had already been paid for and they gave me the collection agency contact information. They say I owe $1200 for one Algebra class that I couldn't get any help with. The instructor repeatedly ignored my requests as did my advisor. I would like to know just what exactly I'm paying this $1200 for. I disputed the charges and requested an itemization of charges. I would be willing to take part in any class action suit. The amount they charge for classes is unreal, and they pass you even if you can't punctuate or spell. I want ALL my money back so I can get the degree I deserve and should already have. Feel free to email me regarding this issue.
