Complaint / review text:
I am currently a VC student at the Knoxville, TN campus and have been a student at this school since April, 2014. The instructors at this school are highly unprofessional and unethical. They gossip about their co-workers and students to other students and will degrade or even bully students that they do not like.in the year that I have been with the school there are only three instructors left working at the school from when I originally started. I have only had two classes where I had the same instructors throughout the entire quarter.in most of my previous classes we actually ended up have three or four different instructors teach the class because the instructors would quit. It is very difficult as a student to adjust to multiple teaching styles in an 11 week period for the same class.
Due to their high turnover rate they have with instructor, assignments and homework are passed around to multiple people after we turn it in. Since it is passed around a lot of the homework/assignments are lost and then you have to fight to get grades for it, because the school tries to give you zeros. It's ridiculous to say the least. If I turn in my assignments on time I expect to be given a grade for them.
The students at this institution are not held to any type of standard either. Virginia College claims that professionalism is the basis of finding a good profession and yet do not hold the students accountable for their actions. I have personally witnessed students yell and curse out instructors, steal syringes, do drugs, talk about the drugs they do with instructors, steal personal items (such as purses and wallets), and bully and physically threaten other students and instructors. I have even seen a student purposely try to run over another with her car. Nothing happened to these students. They did not get into trouble and most of the students that I have witnessed do these acts are still attending classes at Virginia College. Personally I think that is ridiculous. These very same students are going to go out and get hired and continue to do the same things, which in turn is going to reflect on the school and the other students that have not done anything wrong.
Lastly, the schools financial aid is a bit of a joke. I have no idea how they are legally allowed to handle student’s tuition as they are obviously a bit challenged in handling their job duties. My tuition is 100% covered through the VA and yet just about every quarter financial aid tries to charge me for my classes, after they have already received my tuition from the VA. This usually takes months for them to fix. On top of that it also takes months for me to get my Pell Grant and additional loans I have to take out to be able to effectively take care of my child and pay his childcare expenses. Every single quarter it is a new excuse on why I cannot receive my funds. I personally know of two people who have had to drop due to the errors on their financial aid packets.
If you are considering attending this school all I can advise you is to do your research. Credits earned from VC are not transferable and unfortunately I am just too far in to drop out not, otherwise I would have transferred from this school a while ago.
