Complaint / review text:
My boyfriend and I are currently enrolled with Ashford University. We both are on financial aid plans, as neither of us make enough money to pay for college out of pocket. Our experiences at Ashford have been poor, to say the least. Every time he or I call and attempt to talk to one of our financial advisors, we go straight to voicemail. Nobody ever answers, and the only way he has even spoken with his (Bryan) is to go through half a dozen other people. To get to the point, however, Ashford is willfully holding money that he is entitled to through his financial aid.
Periodically throughout the academic period, any excess funds are disbursed and he would receive a check for that amount. There are 8 classes per academic period and you are thus required to pay for 8 classes. He has paid for 8 classes, but he failed one. He was sent a letter by his academic advisor stating that retaking the course was an out of pocket expense and they would reschedule it for a later date.
His financial advisor, however, refuses to disburse the rest of his funds, stating that they are allowed to keep his money because he failed that one class. He is not on academic probation and the circumstances surrounding his failing of the class are currently under investigation. His grade mysteriously dropped over 20% overnight, resulting in the failing grade. The financial advisor, however, still refuses to send the money, even though he (my boyfriend) is supposed to receive it.
