As any good programmer knows the best way to keep your information secure is to keep it private. So when the super buggy nelnet website asks me to put my bank account information into its databases this is just not an option.
So I go about paying this bill the way I would pay any other bill, through the online bill pay service my bank offers. Problem is nelnet is really just collecting money for the department of education, so I spend hours of my time on the phone with the bastards to get the correct information to fill out my online bill pay. (Which is in the form of a check to the department of education). So after paying thousands of dollars to the department of education nelnet call me and tell me that they have not been receiving my payments. Well the money was being taken out of my bank account and there was a record of it being deposit into someone else account.
After calling nelnet for hours more, I finally had to fax them proof that I paid them. NOT EMAIL THEY WOULD ONLY ACCEPT FAX OR STANDARD MAIL.
The best solution for me has been to wait until they are about to bring me to collection because then they call me and accept a debit card payment. Otherwise if I am not about to be sent to a collect they will not accept my debit card.
There is absolutely no way for me to pay them without compromising my security by putting my bank account information into their crappy unsecure website but I refuse to do that.
