Don't buy Dyson if you have carpets and steps to vacuum.
The only thing it picks up is the fibres from the pile of the carpet gradually damaging your carpet. The canister filling up quickly is not because it picks up unwanted material.
The bristls in the roller are very hard and rip the fibres right out your carpet. After the pile is damaged which happens within 10 cleanings, you will stop seeing the nice upright fluffed up pile because it is shaved off now. Vacuuming steps is a severe pain as the clumsydedign of the vacuum leaves no place to hold and the moment its near upright position, the suction switches to the hand tool which means you have to unlock to reactivate the main vacuu.
All this for subpar cleaning at $450 which is 3 to 4 times times the price of a Panasonic or Sharp vacuum cleaners that do not damage your carpet and function very reliably for more than a decade. Save hundreds and your carpets - stay away from Dyson.
