I have always used Norton Internet Security. This year it came with a backup option. I didn't want to use it but it kept asking to setup an account with the only option being "no" but "no, don't ask me again." It kept stopping my work or game to remind me to backup. After 7 months, I figured out how to remove it. Since first installation of Norton Security, I keep getting error notices and Norton is trying to fix it, then it can't fix it, go to support and there you read download the eraser or removal tool. I do not have fast speed connection available and that is very time consuming. Then you need to reinstall your software.
Tonight I got an error for the third time. I decided to have a chat session. It finally ended up with the support guy saying he wanted to go to safe mode to find the problem. He starts safe mode and then we have lost connection. But I cannot connect to the internet when I am in safe mode, so no way to chat. I shut down and restart and I'm still in safe mode. Several attempts and still in safe mode. Luckily I have a smartphone and so I went to support online. Tried for a chat support and finally they cut me off and said try later.
I found the contact phone number and waited forever and finally spoke with a guy who, you guessed it, an accent. He asked me something which I couldn't understand. Then he says, "You don't know what operation system you're using?" I said yes, "Vista". With that he walked me through how to get back to the regular Vista system. I'm back where I started. Do I still have a threat? I don't know, but I think having a chat tech getting access to your computer can be a security risk!
I hope this review might spare someone the experience I have had. If you give your access to a tech, NEVER let him or her GO TO SAFE MODE unless you know you can connect to your server in safe mode. When Norton expires, I will be getting different security software. They were a good company. If they are this busy in the wee hours of the morning, they need to hire more help.in hindsight, I should have said no and ended the session. He had the error number so why did he need to use safe mode?
