I went in because there was a deal that offered a $39 cleaning. I had the x rays and exam but when it came to clean my teeth they said I needed to pay $4000 for a deep cleaning with laser gum scaling.
My response was that my mom used to work for a dentist who told me to never have a deep cleaning and all I wanted was a simple cleaning. Aspen Dental's manager stated that their policy is that they cannot perform a simple cleaning if the dentist is recommending a more in depth procedure.
Instead, they will take my $39 for a cleaning they refuse to perform because their dentist said I need more.in the medical field, a patient has the right to decline a procedure and move forward with an alternative.
For example, I may need an MRI that requires an injection into the joint but I don't want the injection, I can still move forward with the MRI.
I know this is a dental facility but I would think that a dentist who cares about his community's teeth wouldn't care about getting more money but rather that he at least cleaned a client's teeth. I don't want to be pressured to feel pressured to have a procedure done that I DON'T WANT or BELIEVE IN! At the end of that day I went to a local private practice dentist.
He said I didn't have any need for such an expensive procedure. From this experience I will have a lasting distrust of any recommendations made by any dentist.
