Complaint / review text:
I had a similar experience. I purchased a 6-month eHarmony subscription. Like most complaints here the site wasn't helpful with dating; so I stopped using it - fair enough. A few months later I see a charge for $207 on my credit card from eHarmony because I forgot to log in and cancel my account so it automatically renewed. I explained to customer service that I haven't used the account for several months, and don't plan to in the future and I mistakenly forgot to login and click cancel. Further frustrating is that most recurrences bill monthly, but I was charged for 6 months. A customer service agent agreed to reduce the charge down a 3-month charge. Another followup email refuted that offer and said I'd be charged for the full $207. I called my credit company to dispute the charge, but somewhere in the eHarmony fine print is a clause the subscription will renew, so no luck.
If something similar happens to you I recommend calling your credit card company and attempting to dispute even though they'll probably deny it. If enough people call in the CC companies might force eHarmony to change their billing practices.
So as a warning to everyone else whose done with the site: make sure to click *cancel* when you're done with the account. They won't notify you that the account is about to renew.
