My experiences have been defating to say the least. Thumbtack goes through hoops to get the professionals to become verified, and charging for credits.in theory, this is a great idea - except that the customers have no accountability whatsoever for the projects they are asking for. Just because they post a project doesn't mean they will actually see it through. It's as if most customers are using Thumbtack to price out their wish-lists.
I've sent out 31 quotes, and received only one paying client - and that client actually happened to be an office I had visited previous to signing up with Thumbtack.
Thumbtack would do better to get customers to pre-pay their budget with a credit card, let the customer select who they want to work with - and reward the winning bid a portion at winning the bid (non-refundable) and the rest when the project is complete (again, non-refundable) with a comment and rating for services. I would even be willing to trade some of the profit for more credits (not all of it, unless if Thumbtack is willing to pay for my health insurance, mortgage, electric bill, and everything else.).
Come on Thumbtack - we know you raised the bar on us professionals. It's time to raise the bar on the people we depend on.
