Complaint / review text:
When I initially signed up with eHarmony for 3 months on 9/9/13, I immediately cancelled my subscription so that I would not be automatically renewed. Since I had gone through this procedure I didn't notice until one week after my subscription was over on 12/9/13 that they had auto renewed me. On 12/15/13, just one week after my initial term period, I contacted eHarmony to tell them THEY ERRONEOUSLY auto renewed me. I was advised by someone on the phone that I didn't terminate until that day 12/15 and it was too late, I was already enrolled for another month for $29.
This is an obvious scam since the internet is filled with the exact same complaint. There were not notifications sent to me, no reminders that I was about to be renewed so I had no way of knowing that there's either a glitch on their end, or they disable whatever you do to terminate the auto renew when you sign up. There is no human being to dispute this with. They let me file my complaint in writing and they send back a form letter email telling me in effect - tuff nuts... I'm being charged and there's nothing they can do about it!
IF the site was worth it, I would do another month. But it's not. There are very few matches available AND I believe most of the people on there are NOT current and active members. So you are writing to people who are inactive, eHarmony forwards your letter of interest to inactive members in the hopes of getting them to join. They never do. The probably already know what a waste of time and money EHARMONY is. The word has to get out about this and something has to be done to stop them from their very unscrupulous auto renew methods. Again... I did not auto renew. I terminated my membership the very day that i signed on to avoid this very problem.
