Complaint / review text:
On Dec2 23,007, after being emailed many times that an old classmate was trying to reach me thru Classmates.com, I noticed that I had to be a member to view this info. I was not going to pay $39.00 that they were then asking to join a gold membership. A few weeks later, Classmates.com then offered me a membership for $9.99 for one year, and I could see who was trying to reach me. (I thought it was just a trial membership type thing) I used my Juniper credit card to charge the fee of only $9.99.
I have hardly used this membership the whole last yr., after seeing who had left me a message. The site in not usefull to me in any way, and I had no plans to renew this membership. Noone from Classmates.com contacted me, nor emailed me to ask if I wished to continue this membership. Then on Dec. 30,2008, I noticed that on Dec. 23,2008, a charge of $39.00 had been charged to my Juniper credit card, by Classmates.com, unauthorized by me, I might add. I then contacted Classmates.com, by email, to request them to refund my credit card for the $39.00, as I did not want to renew membership.
I was told via reply email, by Sharon, of Member Care Dept. That appearently upon submitting the original fee of $9.99, onto my Juniper Credit card, in Dec. 2007, that I would be automatically renewed. I did not see this on original submission, or I would of cancelled this membership out, prior to Dec. 23,2008 renewal date. They said it is non refundable, and refused to refund me $39.00, despite fact that it has caused me a hardship, and I am not presently working, and did not want any charges put onto that Credit card.
What a total rip-off scam this is. I even notified my credit card company, to say I did not authorize this charge, but have not heard back. But it appears that Classmates.com uses this practice alot, according to other complaints I viewed on your site.
