I received a letter stating I won 125,000.00 in a Canadian Sweepstakes. Enclosed with the letter is a check for the amount of 5985.00 to pay for the Canadian Non-Resident Tax which comes to 4980.00. I thought ok lets see if this is real. I took the check to my bank to verify that the check was real and funds available. It is a real bank and account but the teller tells me that if you cash this check it may be a week or two but the company which is QST Industries will stop payment because they did not issue the check. So I thought ok I will play the game.
I called Mr. Chris Peters who is the claim agent and he told me I should not have taken the check to the bank without calling him first because he has to call ahead and clear the funds. So I asked him what do I do? He asked me to call back in 10 minutes so he could speak to his supervisor.
I called back and guess what? No worries they are going to take care of the tax because of the mix up but now he wants me to call back in 10 minutes so that he can get from FED EX the insurance amount I need to pay before the check can be sent, in the sum of 1000.00 to 5,000.00. Really, I cant believe that anyone would fall for this. I new when I got the letter it was a scam but I like to play along I just hope some desperate person does not get caught up in this scam.
According to the teller at the bank in which the money was to be draw from he said" anything coming from Canada right now is a scam" by the time you cash the check, send the tax to Canada and that QST Industries comes after you for their 5985.00 back, there is no way that the US banks can get your money back and you are out 5985.00. With the economy getting tough and millions losing their jobs dont be desperate. Check out every aspect before cashing any checks.
