Complaint / review text:
My boyfriend is currently incarcerated in NY and has been calling me collect and it was being billed to my telephone provider, until yesterday, when they informed me that my provider is no longer allowing the collect calls and I must set up a pre pay account through Global Tel*Link. So, I drove 45 minutes to the nearest Walmart to buy a prepaid credit card to set up the account and pay $25 so that my 3 year old and I can talk to his daddy. We talked for 14 minutes.
When he called today, I'm told that there is insufficient funds to allow the call to connect. So, I call Global Tel*Link for an explanation and all I get is some rude man telling me that there was a $3 connection fee and the rest was charged for the call. I asked him to break down the amount they charged per minute and was told that he can't do that and if I wanted to continue to receive the calls, I would have to add more funds, end of story.
So, I did the math and I was charged $1.57 a minute. I told them, "Thank you very much for ripping me off, "and hung up. I then called my phone provider and asked about the block that Global Tel*Link told me that Verizon had put on my phone. Verizon says no such block exists and that I should be able to receive the calls, but Global Tel*Link will not allow this to happen.
This is the second time they have ripped me off and it won't happen again. This "company" is nothing but government sanctioned criminals. They make you use their pre pay network to talk to your loved ones and give you no other options. It's a bunch of that we, as their family, have to go through this as well as them being gone. I've read all the complaints here and it's a shame that no one has shut this company down yet. I mean, really, exactly how much money and how many people does this place need to rip off for something to be done? We all know that if it was one of us doing this, it would have been taken care of long ago.
