Complaint / review text:
We bought a Maytag gas oven from Home Depot. Two days after installation it started leaking gas. We called the salesman who told us a little gas smell is normal at start up. Days pass and smell is now more noticable—especially when we enter house from running errands and stove has not been in use. Home Depot salesman is irritated by us calling back and questioning his knowledge of gas leaks and explaining to him scented natural gas is not an air freshener. He directs us to call Maytag. Maytag says they will send out their top-notch local contrated repair team—Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dee—to fix it as per warranty. Sure enough, we get Tweedle Dumb but we get Tweedle Dee's brother instead, Tweedle Dumber. Now... Before we let them into our house, we research who Maytag and Home Depot let represent them. The reviews are not good at all. It's actually the Appliance Doctor, not TD&TD... And these two live up to the reviews. "Worst service, have no idea what they are doing, leave the item in worse shape than when they started, etc." They llok at stove and announce they can't fix it without some silly out-of-stock part (the regulator) and they will need 8-10 business days to get one. Like clockwork, ten business days go by, and sure enough, like the revies stated, they not only haven't diagosed the problem correctly, haven't fixed it, and leave it in worse shape... They also leave with parts that aren't even supposed to leave the stove to begin with. Home Depot is contacted, realizes we are the same family who had to have previous mis-steps corrected from their Summerville (SC) store, and make effort to at least supply a stove for the now ensuing holidays. (The last three months of the year usually has a few imbedded therin.) Tweedle Dumb and Dumber have already said it will probably take another 8-10 business days to get another part that will "hopefully" fix the stove and gas leak. Oh, and it is now a week before Christmas with family coming, etc. Temporary stove is delivered and set up... Almost. Dee and Dumber, after having to borrow OUR tools, have managed to incorrectly remove stove assembly so that I can now not hook up anything... Except maybe a can opener. We call Matag. Explain characters from Alice in Wonderland have invaded my house. Certainly some sort of nightmare, anyway... Maytag sticks by their choice of "quality" representitives as to how this will play out.'No, you may not get anyone else to fix the stove' we are told. Sorry about the holidays. They have never heard of the Rule of Nines. (Ya know, where you tell nine people, who tell nine people, who...) Maybe only after this happens many, many times will Maytag and Home Depot understand customer service is their best friend... Especially in this economy. Heck, maybe they will even realize customers are really good friends to have, too. We will be working to rid ourselves of this stove and never buy another Maytag anything again. Samsung and LG have been great!!! As for the Home Depot, they have played well with us, although their choice of local contractors still remains shoddy at best. Especially when it came to our special order of custom - fit blinds and special installation... And the guy with the rusty hacksaw... But that is a story for a different day
