Complaint / review text:
Was talked into trying out CenturyLink's new Prism TV (like cable) service. Was sold a bill of goods. Told that they had better HD quality than the cable company. Was told that I could watch and or record 4 shows at one time. I was told I would have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee. (From their website: Try it for 30 days. Risk-free.
We’re so sure you’ll prefer Prism™ TV over your current TV service, we’ve backed it with a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Not to mention, when you sign up for Prism, it comes with friendly, personal service you can count on 24/7.)
I had it installed but did not have my cable company disconnected (Brighthouse) THANK GOD that I did not cancel the cable company.
Two hours after it was installed, I set the DVR to record one of my wife's favorite shows, and then tried to schedule another one on a different channel that comes on at the same time and could not do it. So I thought I was doing something wrong. The shows were scheduled to come on shortly after I set the program to record, so when the time for the broadcast came I went to the channel that was not set to record so I could just manually tell it to record. To my surprise and total amazement I received a message on the screen that if I wanted to watch that channel I would have to stop the recording on the other channel or choose another channel to watch.
I called customer support and was told I had ONLY one HD stream and that if I wanted to watch another channel it could NOT be in HD!!!
I told them they could cancel the service and take their cr*p out of my house that night! Then they told me that I would have to call ANOTHER number to cancel the internet service!!!
I told them that this service was solicited at my house I did not go to them and that they made false and misleading promises, but I had to call the "Internet" department.
So I spoke to someone at the internet department and they told me I had to keep the internet for a year or pay a $200 early termination fee!
The quote above is from the CenturyLink website and was told the same thing by the door to door salesman that visited our house... Thirty day satisfaction guarantee.
There was no mention that I would get to record or watch only one HD stream then the other 3 would have to be standard definition (Read ugly black bars on the side of the picture on your widescreen home theater.)
STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM THESE BAIT AND SWITCHERS AS POSSIBLE. Unless you are willing to go back to 1990's technology.
You can get better HD service with your own antenna than you will get with these jokesters!!!
(I Went back to my cable company and asked if they would mind coming out and fixing my cable. Then told them about how CenturyLink came to my house and cut the Brighthouse cable connection out to use the Brighthouse cable runs to hook up the CenturyLink systems and what a joke CenturyLink was. Brighthouse came out, made the repairs and now I can record two HD programs at one time and watch a third if I so wish.)
