Complaint / review text:
I have sent a package to a foreign country and the package was damaged on the way. Good thing I have the package insured but I never thought it was only the beginning of a nightmare!!!
USPS requested me to contact my recipient to bring the package to their local post office to do a damage report. Fine, my recipient did that and the foreign post office sent out the report to USPS in a registered mail. Ok more than a month has past, USPS still has not received the report. And when I try to help them to find the damage report by giving them the case number used by the foreign post office and where the report was sent to, they just simply said, NO we cannot use these information, and told me that I should let the research department do their job to find the report. I tried to convince them that maybe they should do something differently because apparently they were looking at wrong place or something in the whole process was not right. But they just told me nothing I said can help speed up the process.
I also talked to the foreign post office. Compare to USPS, the foreign post office is soooo much better. They explained to me what they have done, and were willing to resend the report and even send me a copy of the damage report in email. They told me they were waiting for inquiry letter from USPS and never received it. But they sent out the report to USPS anyway. The report was sent to Chicago where all the international package to the foreign country are sent out from.
So what about USPS? They refused to tell me anything about how they were looking for the report and how the foreign country should do to correctly send the report. They have a great confidence that such thing will never happen that the communication with a foreign post office would go wrong.
So I was left in between, trying to help but USPS just refused to give me any useful information. Their attitude is always "there is nothing that we can do (or willing to do) except waiting!" Come on. You are ridiculous after waiting for 1 month for a registered mail and still so believe it is on the way to you!!! Obviously something is wrong and you cannot care less to deal with it!
Worst of all, the customer service really likes to say "Thank you for calling USPS" as a mean to ask you to hang up first, even when we have not done talking!!! They answered my question with some lame official words and directly say thank you for calling USPS. Once after said this twice, a lady has even hung up on me after I asked her "can you hold on a second". What kind of customer service is this. Is it not your job to help customer?!
They also have some stupid counter on their system to record how many times you have called about an issue. And after a couple of times of communications with them, they started to try to avoid me and hang up as soon as possible.
I am afraid the worst thing is going to happen, I will never be able to claim my loss. The money I spent on the insurance only buys me so much headache.
