Complaint / review text:
I've had my main account with IMVU since 2008 and they recently banned me with no warning or email letting me know the ban had even taken place. When I could not log in to any of my accounts as they were all banned, I decided to file a help ticket. They sent me a reply a day later stating that my account has been permanently disabled for unauthorized use of IMVU 3D Client. I replied that I did not understand what they were saying, so a friend of mine did some investigating. We found the forums.
After some reading, we came to a better understanding of what was unauthorized use of IMVU 3D Client. I do not own unauthorized version of IMVU other than the version that IMVU has allowed me to use to log in in to their chat client. I'm thinking someone found a better mouse trap. You see all someone need do is hack an account, the account holder would never know the person was in their account, take that information, plug it into an unauthorized version of IMVU, and use it how they see fit. This eventually gets caught and the account holder loses their account, rather than the person who has hacked their account for use like unauthorized version of IMVU. This means innocent people on IMVU lose their accounts and never fully understand what has happened other than the generic response from IMVU, for example:
"Thank you for contacting IMVU! We're sorry for the inconvenience. We understand your frustration in realizing that your account has been terminated, and we apologize if this was done without warning. Our records indicate that it has been permanently deactivated due to unauthorized use of the IMVU 3D client. We apologize for there are no other details available at this time, but your account will no longer be reactivated. Please know that your account underwent thorough research before reaching this decision. Unfortunately, this decision is final and can no longer be appealed. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding."
So if you have an IMVU account, you're susceptible to being hacked and having your account used without your knowledge for purposes that you would not permit your account to be used for.
