Dont sign up for automatic billing on your water bill. I had automatic billing on my water bill with Mobile Area Water and Sewer System MAMSS for many years and had no problems. But last year I got very ill and was not watching my bill and before I knew it they had depleted my account to almost nothing with their water bill drafts. It turned out that there was a commode running. We were not living in the house and I did not notice the problem with the commode. The water company has no limits on the amount they can auto draft on your account! They can and do draft any amount on your account even if the amount they are drafting is 3 or 4 times the normal amount that is charged for a residence. They do know when you have a major problem! Since water service has become so expensive and problems like this can amount to thousands of dollars I feel the water company should contact people personally if they know you have a problem or have reasonable limits on the amount that they can auto draft on your account. Truth is they dont want to contact you or come out and cut the water off if you have a problem. They want to continue to auto draft your account for just as much as they can. You cannot become ill or complacent on your bill because you cannot trust the water company to notify you when you have major problems. This is a very unfair practice! The water company is only interested in making money. They have no personal interest in customers or in water conservation. Protect your self dont sign up for automatic billing on your water bill it is not in your best interest. Pay your bill every month so that you are aware if there are any problems. Automatic billing only benefits the water company and I am certain they make millions of dollars extra by having people sign up for it. If anyone else has had similar problems and I am sure there are many of you please post them here.
