Instructors are not focused on teaching the art. My child has been going for 5 months and its the same routine. We are required to buy weapons for instruction (bought two) and they only receive 5 mins of instruction. I guess they are focused on perfecting the jumping jacks, push ups etc. For example, I sat in class the other day and my child did 120 jumping jacks in a 45min lesson. Are you kidding me? Teach the art, you can do 15mins of warm ups at the beginning of the class, but focus on teaching the skills. There was more jumping jacks and push ups
I saw another class a few months ago when an instructor coerced a teenage student to run through a gauntlet (12 times) of students (adults and children) whipping him with their belts because it was his birthday. Can you say Hazing and Felony? I felt bad for the kid after running through it 12 times and crouching in the corner in pain. IMO, that instructor should have her belt stripped and lose her ability to ever teach a class. Remember this is a school of instruction and the new Hazing Law is in effect from the FAMU hazing incident. This dojo or, school really needs to retool or recertify their instructors on professionlism and character.
Lastly, students teaching students in the Krav Magna (whatever) adult course. When the instructor leaves the students to teach themselves the lesson plan, I have a problem with that. If you are paying alot for a service that comes with a certified instructor, then I expect that certified instructor to be there for the lesson and not select the star student to lead it.
karate america, not worth my time, effort or money anymore. A poor product for the consumer.
