Listen to the Consumers Stories: Don't Buy Macy's Furniture

Complaint / review text:
Admittedly, I’ve had the worst furniture buying experience at Macy’s. I’d like to think I could keep this brief, but I don’t think that’s possible with all the problems I’ve had.

I bought a special order couch a year ago. It took 20 weeks to arrive when I was told it would be 14-16 weeks. The couch came in brown leather, I had ordered black. Macy’s admitted their mistake, placed and order for a new one, and held on to the $2000 I paid for the couch.

Fast forward to 25 weeks later when the new couch arrived. I had been told it would take 14-16 weeks again and that they would try to rush it, obviously that didn’t happen. Macy’s also charged my credit card again for an additional $2,000 for the new order, a charge that was unauthorized. I called to get a refund for the original $2000 and a discount on the new couch since I’d waited almost a year by this point.

I waited the quoted 10 business days to receive my refund, but finally gave up and called again. Macy’s had no record of my couch being returned even though Macy’s picked it up when they delivered the new couch. However, Macy’s figured it out and promised to process the refund in 3 days. They did process a refund, but for less than what I had paid.

After waiting another 30 days, I called again to get the full refund and inquire about the additional 20% discount promised to me on the new couch. If I wouldn’t have called Macy’s never would have processed the 20% discount because their rep rather than a manager keyed it in even though the rep had manager approval.

All along the customer service reps were friendly, but I can only call and be forgiving of Macy’s mistakes so many times, before coming to the conclusion that Macy’s has some serious customer service and quality control issues to work through.

I don’t think any couch is worth the time it has taken me to get things right and Macy’s is not proactive in correcting its mistakes. If you buy furniture from Macy’s and have a problem, be prepared to hold Macy’s hand every step of the way. My advice is to avoid Macy’s at all costs.
