There is a major issue for the 2014 - 2015 year that needs to be addressed, now.
The grade 12 farewell ceremony: this has always been held at the PE opera house, an outside catering company was used based on the best price vs quality which provided a 3 course meal. Students had to pay between R250 - R400 maximum for attendance to the event. Teachers had to pay their own attendance fee if they wanted to be part of the ceremony.
This has changed, the school now holds the ceremony in their own school assembly hall, the catering is done by the home economics teacher who provides only "finger snacks and some boxed juice". The minimum attendance fee for students is R700, all the school's teachers may attend for free.
By comparison, the problem is clear. The school no longer has to pay the opera house rental, the overall quality of the event is in the gutter while the home ec. Teacher gets to stick a lot of cash in her pocket, while the other teachers get a free meal. This is pure exploitation of the students, since they have no alternate to the ceremony and lets face it, this kind of farewell ceremony is the high point for most students in their 5 year cycle at any high school.
