Pathetic service and confusion

I submitted my personal tax returns promptly on 1st July 2014 and included my new bank details. SARS returned a ITA34 (Notice of Assessment) on the same day indicating that I was due a refund pending verification of my banking details and according to the letter was not selected for audit or any other verification. The ITA34 stated that once this verification was done the refund due to me would be paid into my new account. I took the documents required to SARS, Randburg on 3rd July and spent 1/2 day there to get this done. I then receive a letter from SARS on 8th July stating that I have to submit all my details and claims for audit. I phoned SARS call center to explain there is a mistake - I only needed to verify my new bank details but agent insisted that SARS wants to do a full audit while the ITA34 states that I am not selected for an audit. The whole process will now take 30 days. My returns are one of the simplest - no other income except my salary, and no other claims except medical aid. How did it go from a simple verification of banking details to full audit over a simple tax return? SARS employees have nothing better to do and are wasting my time and frustrating me!
