We purchased a number items for our bathroom (manufactured by MasterBath) from Home Depot. The medicine cabinet with mirror was a piece of trash. After I installed it the mirror fell out. Their screws holding the mirror in did not screw into wood. Fortunately I caught the mirror. When I returned it to Home Depot they tried to charge me a restocking fee since this was a special order item. They didn't after I told them I wasn't paying a restocking fee for something that had errors in manufacturing. I then purchased a mirror and separate medicine cabinet again from Home Depot and manufactured by MasterBath. The cabinet has a top piece that attaches to the top of the medicine cabinet. It is made of three pieces of molding glued together. Immediately one of the pieces fell off because the glue failed. I'm sure they would have a restocking fee to get it replaced. The medicine cabinet and the three cabinets that fit under the sink are in fine shape.
However, we had a Bathroom specialist design our bathroom remodeling project. We had them design the vanity with 2-12” base cabinets on the sides with an 18” base cabinet in the center. This was a special order. We also picked out a sink to go with the cabinets. After installing the base cabinets my wife and I attempted to set the sink on top. This is when we found out that the sink was 19 inches wide. This obviously would not fit into an 18” base (center) cabinet. I then called Home Depot (on 12/1/2014) to tell them of the poor design that they had given us. Their response was that since the cabinets and sink were special order, there was nothing they could do about it. There exact response was something to the effect that they were sorry but they missed that point. They mentioned that I would need to try to figure out how to modify the base cabinets such that the 19 inch sink would fit into the 18 inch base cabinet. I then asked if they could have someone come out (for free) and make the modification since this was their error. They stated that this was not possible since it was a special order. Being as this cost us over $1300 (plus tax of ballpark $100), we are obviously unhappy.
Naturally when we had a Home Depot bathroom specialist design our bathroom with our specifications, we thought that they would know what they were doing and that everything would fit. And then if it didn’t fit that they would at least take responsibility.
The above two paragraphs were submitted to Home Depot on their website about a week ago. Needless to say they haven't replied.
