In May 2005, I purchased an LG Refrigerator with bottom freezer and water dispenser in the door for $1,699. The salesperson assured me that LG is very dependable and makes "the guts" for GE and Amana. So I bought it.
About 6 months later, the water dispenser button stuck about 50% of the time, causing water to go all over the floor. Then we noticed a build up of ice in the freezer on the food and inside the walls and doors. The manual said this could be caused by keeping the freezer door open too often, so we didn't call service.
In August 2006, after the one year Limited Warranty was up, the display showed EE / FF error code. We called the 1-800 # at LG, and were told to unplug the refrigerator to reset the circuit board. The fan was not kicking in, nor was the compressor. We called an authorized service agent. He found the ice build up was due to a bad circuit board that does not tell the system when to kick in and defrost. He had to order a new circuit board — not under the 7 year warranty for the compressor.
He said it seems to be a manufacturer's defect. We are still waiting for the part to come in. They can't tell us when it will be here. This is poor customer service and pathetic quality.
If we were not here every day to check the refrigerator, unplug it, open the freezer door to force it to defrost, we would lose all our food.
