I purchased a new GE Spacemaker microwave oven in 2000.in 2002, the unit quit working, due to a magnetron failure. After going through the chain of folks at GE, each telling me "it's out of warranty", I finally spoke with someone who told me that GE had outsourced the magnetron production, and each has failed. GE did agree to replace the unit, and sent a repairman who replaced my old Spacemaker with a new one. I was assured that GE does not outsource now, and I would be very satisfied with the new microwave. 7 years later, the magnetron has failed once again. My previous microwave was a Zenith, and was over 20 years old, and working fine when I replaced it, so I don't think I'm expecting too much. No more GE appliances for me.
