I purchased a Kenmore HE2Plus front load washer and matching dryer on 3/5/08, but would not be delivered until 3/13/08. I started noticing after about 4 months that our clothes had this foul smell and depending on the material it was worse (towels, t-shirts, sweatpants and sweatshirts), the majority of our clothes. I tried everything I could think of to get the smell out of the clothes, i. E. Less soap, softener; more soap softener; extra rinse, longer wash cycle, with no improvement.

Then I started to notice the clothes looked dingy after being washed, even the new items. I have had at least 5 service calls on the smell in the clothes and the clothes looking like they are 20 years old, with no resolution. Technicians can't diagnose the problem. I have done nothing but experiment as technicians have suggested: #1 use less soap, #2 use more soap, #3 use less softener, #4 use no softener, #5 use cup of vinegar in load, #6 is water too hard, #7 is water too soft, #8 change soap and softener. The list and excuses goes on and on. The last technician's comment did not make me a happy camper "washing clothes has become an exact science", that is. And how many loads of laundry has he done in his 30-plus years?

I had a top load washer before this one and never had an issue with clothes smelling foul & looking dingy. I don't know how I could be saving anything in water since I run everything through double wash and rinse cycles just to try and get them clean and get the smell out (not helping). It is ridiculous to run a washer for 3 hours to try and clean one load of clothes. This washer is a piece of junk and does not do what it is intended. I spend more time doing laundry and cleaning the washer than I did when my children were at home and little. I can't have it replaced with the lemon law because they have not changed one part on the machine.

Sears/Kenmore don't care about any of this, they got their money and the consumer got taken. Shame on you Kenmore and Sears. All I would like is my money back for a bad product and customer service. We live on a tight budget since I lost my job in Nov. 2008. We can't afford to go buy another washer and keep replacing clothes because of the foul smell and looking dirty. The smell from towels after drying off leaves the smell on your body so now we have to use an after shower body spray to mask the odor. It is embarrassing to go in public with the odor in your clothing that you can't get out and you are a clean person.
