As the landlord, I was required to pay the realtor fee which was $2400 yet my best interest was not considered when the contract was created. The realtors were paid immediately but I will not receive a full month rent until August even though the tenant has been in my home since June. I have been required to pay for several things at the demand of the new tenant. She has been living in my house since June 15th yet I will not see a full month rent until August 1st. I explained to the realtor that I'm absolutely unable to manage my finances for that property and not have any rental income but she arranged things in a way that she would be paid immediately and I would have to wait for three months before seeing any payment for this property. The tenant discarded my belongings without notifying me.
The property had been painted shortly before the tenant moved in but I was required to pay again for paint because the tenant did not like the color, not because it was truly needed. I had to pay to have a piece of furniture taken out of there when it was in a corner of the basement and not in the tenant's way. After working two jobs and draining my savings to keep up with the mortgage and condo fees, I have now missed a mortgage payment due to going for such a long time without rental income and am in danger of losing my property. I would have been better off leaving the place empty and continuing to look for a tenant on my own rather than losing money on realtor's fees and tenant's demands while I have to wait for 3 months before I receive a rent check. Also, I have requested a copy of the background check because I am concerned after finding with my own research that this tenant is identified by several different aliases and I am not sure why. I have a right to know who is living in the property that I own and am responsible for.
