We had a Maytag central heat and air unit installed to replace our 30 unit. At first, we thought we had made a sound decision. Our utility bills seemed a little lower. Then in year 3, the coil developed a leak. The installer charged the refrigerant and stated that he would be back to replace the coil. He never did. Then this year, the air conditioner lost all coolant and we called our installer. He stated that he was out of town and we should call his friend which we did and the friend came over and refueled our refrigerant.in doing so, he also charged us $125.00.

I emailed the installer and explained that it was not fair that we had to pay $125.00 since he himself never corrected the problem. I then asked when he would be out to replace the coil. He stated that he needed the serial numbers of the unit and the coils.instead of coming to our house to get them, he asked that my husband get them. Which my husband did. When my husband went under the house, he discovered that something was leaking which he relayed to the installer. Time went on and we never saw or heard from the installer. When he finally did return my emails, he stated that we would need to find someone else to repair the unit...

We did, we called another company and they came out and found that the coils were leaking and the drain pan was cracked. This would be a $796.00 job with these items under warranty. Well, when we went to the Nordyne website, we discovered that our warranty was handled through a company called Assurant. When we called they stated that we had $395.00 available. They stated that they would cover the coils but not the drain pan nor the tax. When I asked why they would not cover all of it, they stated that this is how the policy was written up.

When I called Nordyne (they made the unit) they stated that we would have to go through Assurant. Nordyne stated that they pay Assurant to cover warranties. Both companies talked down to me. After much consideration, we are going to have the Maytag taken out and a new unit installed. Better than putting good money after bad.
