I have been living in my complex for almost 2yrs now and have usually been charged between R400-R900p/m for electricity. Last month my account was in credit and I was conveniently charged an amount of R2428.40. When I phoned Angor (Hermann Fredericks), I was told that I had been charged an estimate in the past because the employee of Angor who reads the complex meters did not have the key for the meter and was charging me an estimate. Apparently he then obtained the key last month and was able to take an "accurate" reading. I informed Angor that I was not told that I was being charged an estimate and that I had therefore not made provision for it. I was told that I had used the electricity and now I must pay for it. I asked why I should be responsible to pay this lump sum now due to the negligence of their employee and I was told that the employee had been fired because of this negligence. I suggested to Angor that I will pay what I usually pay, up to R900 and they must pay the rest, but I have had no response to this. I also asked for the recording of my telephone conversation, which they confirmed is being recorded, but they have refuse to provide this to me.
