Complaint / review text:
I used an eBay promotion to sell an item and used their shipping guidance calculator to allow the buyer to pay for the item. EBay stated that you can't make any changes to the shipping guidance calculator and had put the item for less weight than it actually was. So when the buyer paid for the item, I printed the shipping label and brought the package to the post office. At the post office once the label is scanned (post office policy is to scan a label first then weigh it) they weighed it and found it was underweight. I had owed $15.00 more for the extra weight. I asked for the package back but the woman at the post office said she couldn't do that, for it would be shipping fraud and either I pay the remaining balance or they call the police since it was a pre-postage paid label. So I paid and she said, "this was an on-going problem with eBay and that I should call them or file a complaint against them".
When I called eBay's customer service the woman that answered said, "I should go down and get the package or ask the buyer to pay the difference". When I told her to ask the buyer she said, "NO!" and when I told her it was a felony by FEDERAL LAW she said it's ok go do it. I explained to her 3 times that I would get arrested and she each time asked that I break the law. When I requested to speak to her boss she said there was none. I wrote the attorney-general about this and eBay's response was that I am at fault, that I can change the shipping calculator and that goes against what they originally had told me. They also stated I wasn't clear on the fact they asked me to BREAK the law and commit shipping fraud.
As for selling on eBay they claimed shipping guidance is an option but if you sell something, it defaults to it and doesn't give you a choice unless you go in manually and change it. They also stated that I keep in mind that their services may or may not be followed. But their email promotions strictly state that if you don't, you are not covered under them and will not receive any coupons or benefits if you don't follow their pricing, shipping, auction style (with no buy it now), and so on. They have been nothing but condescending towards me from the start and have tried to get me charged with federal charges. I believe they create these shipping weights knowing a buyer would have never paid the actual postage and leaving the seller to pay the rest once it is scanned, knowing that if they don't send it out and pay the rest they will be arrested.
As I have stated I have tried multiple times to get some kind of resolution to this problem, and when I told them I would go to the state attorney-general or higher about how they asked me to break the law and frauded me, they said they couldn't wait to hear from them. If needed I will submit promotion emails from eBay stating how you have to follow their policies or they will not cover you and how you CAN'T change anything.
